Re: Parker gone
When you really think about it Bournemouth would mad to spend lots of money to stay in this league. It only makes sense if a club is not really self funded.

To entice any decent players that would guarantee you league status means overpaying everyone you buy. They will all demand long contracts as well which are unsustainable if you drop down. Coupled with the fact that Bournemouth must have one of the smallest stadium and possible fan base in the top 2 leagues and it just doesn’t make sense.

Never made sense when Howe was there either. Just goes to show how good a coach he was for them.

The best thing is to have a long term vision for your club that doesn’t depend on it being in the top league. That means knowing you’ll go down every few years but using that money the parachute money to secure the club properly. The sole point of those clubs should be to develop a progressive style with youth players and sell those players on.

Better to build a side that actually plays well than just rely on great players. I think maybe that was what the Bournemouth boss was on about really.

Forest could be a massive slow motion car crash if the owner didn’t have silly money I suppose. (I assume he has silly money otherwise he’s insane)

I think he knew they were on a hiding to nothing, he didn't want to resign as he is then entitled to sweet FA. As he has been sacked, he will get a payout.

He was hedging his bets, made this comment and if I get away with it, once they go down he can refer to it with the "told you so" aspect.

Probably very frustrating for him as he is still in shape and could have done a job himself on the pitch.sort of...

Whether he is cut out for management or not I like him and wish him the best.

That's true. I meant more of the fact that if the unthinkable happens and a team that has splurged money goes down it can then take an awful long time to come back up.

You are right re fanbase. I live pretty close to Brighton and for years they couldn't quite take that extra jump into the PL. Now they have done that they have surprised me to be honest but it's not a major surprise to their supporters. Having said that their fans never gave the board or the team a hard time. Probably something to do with years of struggle playing at Withdean and then anything is an improvement on that, and they have a nice ground now at the AMEX.

Side

But they have thrown their bollox at the clock under Howe and at the infrastructure
They have lost £100m over the last 3 years, that's Bournemouth, hardly likely to get top bidding in the corporate ring are they?
When Parker went their, he claimed he wanted a more progressive, developmental and structured role central to the broader club growth
Promotion was ahead of schedule, so fair play, take a spin at it, coach the squad and make the best of it
And don't forget that they did £24m in the January window (Parker did a Parker and fell out with at least 2)

The Leeds situation is more of a warning to teams like us. A top tier team already established in the league. Wanting to rub shoulders with the European elite’s. (Not for one moment I am suggesting we are going down that path.)

As for the like of Bournemouth and Norwich. It’s about laying a foundation for the future generation of the club to build upon. We gone down. Come back up after a season or two and been fine. Because we have the fanbase that can take the hit. Same has been with Newcastle. Villa. And Manchester City. Norwich and Bournemouth can’t afford to be down in the lower leagues for too long. But haven’t got the fanbase to compete with teams who easy pull 40000 fans each home game regardless of what league they are playing in.

A tad harsh given they have played and lost to Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool.......what did the owners expect?

I like Parker he is a strong character he will be back!

I'm sure Yo-Yoing clubs used include a couple or few seasons in each division?

Re: Parker gone
Not sure what to make of Parker as a manager really. Obviously has something about him to get two promotions from the championship but the manner in which he’s been dumped out of the PL twice isn’t a good look.

A mates brother left Bournemouth this summer and didn’t have a great deal to say about him on a positive note either.

Great post and one I agree with

The term "Yo Yo club" seems to be used as derisory whereas you could argue its more prudent and ensures the Club will be there for the supporters in the long term

West Brom are a great example of it, have a season or two in the PL but don't sell the family silver to maintain it

Lets be honest its not that long since we were Yo-Yoing

Re: Parker gone
The gap between championship and Premier is as huge now as it's ever been, average prem players earn eye-watering salaries and want lengthy contracts and favourable release clauses.

Even then there's no guarantee they keep you up. I don't blame norwich at all, although I suppose the fan's dream of a club established in the Premier league.

One way they could even things out is by banning loans between Premier league clubs, it might deter them from hoarding players and having oversised squads, but we know there's a top four bias so it'll never happen.

Re: Parker gone
It seems that Leeds situation all those years ago still doesn't ring alarm bells with many. I understand that when a club comes up they will need new players but it's a right kick in the teeth for all those players that "got you there". Any team that has come up and dumped all those who got them promoted in favour of splashing the cash might struggle to get those good, hard working honest pros next time around.

Re: Parker gone
I get what you are saying Scorch but there should be a better way of structuring it so they can spend their prize money and give it a fair crack, the PL shouldn't have whipping boys......yes it can have teams who underperform but the Norwich situation is not good....and it looks like Bournemouth are going the same way....the worst team unit should go down not the best at spending the least prize money.

I would have more respect for Redknapp junior if instead of boring the nation with his regular know all contributions as a Sky pundit,he had the guts to apply for the Bournemouth vacancy.

Re: Parker gone
It's a real shame the 'sensible' and pragmatic Norwich approach doesn't work. It's a much more financially healthy way of trying to run a club, but they are stuck as too good for the Championship and not good enough for the Premier League.

It'll be a real kick in the teeth for the health of the game if Forest stay up comfortably as then it'll just encourage teams to splurge millions and millions on transfer fees and wages, risking financial oblivion if it doesn't work. I'm sure if Forest do go down they are not going to be in good shape, although I'm not going to pretend I know a load about the background of their owner. He doesn't seem to be going about things terribly responsibly though.

Re: Parker gone
Also what if the clubs in the PL with loads of players on their books were made to put those excess players in a draft for those who win promotion to the PL to choose from in a season long loan with the winner of the Championship getting first dibs etc and the owning club had to pay their wages. It would make those joining think twice about it surely?.....it all needs a bit of reigning in to me with the emphasis being on decent footballers actually playing football....
